CPVA MEETING MINUTES
MINUTES APPROVED
May 19, 2003, 7: 30 p.m.
- Attendance: Staci Bell, David Bell, Nicole Brotherton, Ray Penton, Ann Schultz, Ron Schultz, Willie Johnson, Nancy Phillips, Shauna Diaz, Ashley Diaz, Joe Diaz, Gail Carney, Ed Carney, Arthur Johnson, Monica Pastrana, Carrie Weatherford, Mike Carson. Kay McIver, Allyson Malone 7:31- Meeting called to order by Kay Mciver, introduction of village officers. 7:33- introduction of guest speaker Kathie Herrick, a 6-year employee of environmental services department, and former science teacher. 7:35- Ms. Herrick speaks of environmental services and that there are 2 certified Texas naturalists on staff there, along with a master gardener. Environmental services is a good place to go and learn about the benefits planting native, and that here in Texas there is a very large diversity of native plants. Ms Herrick says it is easy to transition to a native garden from almost any type. She speaks on grouping plants for water saving purposes, and the importance of testing your soil.Also goes into detail on the benefits of building a compost, and says composting is some of the best advice she gives. Composting classes run in October through March. 8:06- Consideration of minutes from April 21, 2003 motion made to approve, motion passes and carries. 8:07- Treasurer’s report given by Nicole Brotherton 8:09- Village liaison’s report given by Holly Steinke of Neighborhood services. 8:19- Spring Fling Update by Kay Mciver. The event was a huge success, the primrose school attended, fun unlimited did a fantastic job, and the cakewalk had a net profit of 86.60 8:23- Announcement that our proceeds from the flea market totaled 1,350.00. 8:25- College scholarship update, we had 2 scholarship winners, Avian Nicoll, and Ashley Diaz. Congratulations to both girls. 8:26- Earth Day report, College Park was presented a check for 500.00 at the 14 annual meeting of The Woodlands Green. 8:30- Reference to Community Association letter, an invitation to submit requests pertaining to services, programs, or capital improvements. 8:33- Volunteers needed for Fourth of July float. There is a 10-dollar entry fee to be in the parade, the deadline to pay that is June 20, 2003. “Celebrating a Century of flight” is the parade’s theme this year. 8:38- Trash service day in Harper’s Landing is being changed to Wednesdays, you should be notified by mail as to the exact date this takes affect. 8:40- Resident questions and concerns Q> I am new to the village, and have not yet gotten a trashcan, what can I do? A>Notify waste management. Q> Why are lights pointing to the signs on Harper’s Landing Drive? A>Unsure, we can look into it. Q> Any plans for maintenance to Donwick?
- A>The county owns that road, continue sending your complaints to them.
